Honduras have qualified to the World Cup just once in their history back in 1982. However that campaign ended in disappointment as Honduras failed to win a single match and finished at the bottom of their group table.

Road to 2010 World Cup

Honduras qualified to the World Cup with a dramatic victory in their final match to pip the much fancied Costa Rica side to the final qualification spot. After securing a comfortable passage to the fourth qualifying round, Honduras looked set to miss out on the competition.

However Costa Rica managed to secure just a single point from their final game against United States while Honduras won against El Salvador to climb to third thanks to a better goal difference compared to Costa Rica.

Wilson Palacios, Hendry Thomas and Maynor Figueroa will be key to Honduras’ hopes of pulling off an upset with the trio having a good season with their respective clubs while David Suazo and Carlos Pavon will provide the much needed experience for Reinaldo Rueda’s side.
