Holland Under 21s crushed a 10 man Serbian team to retain their European crown. The game also saw Maceo Rigters pick up the golden boot award courtesy of 4 goals during the course of the competition. The tournament which was also hosted by the Dutch saw a display of young talent throughout Europe. Many of the top players in the tournament have been head hunted and snapped up by top European teams during the course of the summer.

The final was pretty much one sided. Holland were 3-0 up before Serbia dropped to 10 men. Goals by Otman Bakkal, Ryan Babel and Rigters made the game pretty much one sided. However, the dismissal of Aleksandar Kolarov did not compound Serbia’s fate. Instead it led to a goal by Dragan Mrdja who saved face for the travelers. This rare foray by the Serbs was later cancelled out by substitute Luigi Bruins as Holland raced to a 4-1 win.
