The situation for West Ham isn’t quite as dire as it could have been.

They’ve started to pick up points – not as many as their supporters would have liked – but at least they are not completely adrift at the bottom.

Only three points separate them from 12^th and prior to the Merseyside kick-off they were on the same number of points as Liverpool and Everton.

Of course that’s not saying much given their troubles, but at least West Ham have managed to halt their alarming run of defeats and have their superb performance against Tottenham as a marker for how good they can be.

It was imperative to avoid defeat at Wolves last time out and they did by showing a resilience that was missing earlier in the season.

The threat of relegation looms – but that can be said for several teams in the bottom half.

Another bad run of results will leave them in serious trouble – but it only needs a couple of results in their favour to propel themselves up the Premier League table.
