One of the more straight forward groups in this summer’s World Cup, Group C is not expected to throw up any surprises with two of the biggest teams expected to secure a comfortable passage to the knockout stages. Algeria, Slovenia, England and United States make up the group with the last two teams expected to finish first and second respectively. However the World Cup has a history of throwing up shock results and both Algeria and Slovenia will be determined to prove that they do belong on the biggest stage of world football and make life difficult for their much illustrious opponents.

With England scheduled to play United States in the opening round of the group, the winner of the match between Algeria and Slovenia will have a great chance of putting pressure on either of the two teams.

While Slovenia are one of the more surprising qualifiers to the World Cup, Algeria is the team that is expected to provide a stern test for both England and United States in the group stage. This will be Algeria’s first World Cup appearance in 24 years but coach Rabah Saadane has got a very good team on hand that could improve on the Fennecs’ record in the competition by qualifying to the knockout stage.

England’s Wayne Rooney is expected to have an excellent World Cup with the 24-year old having his best season so far by scoring 34 goals for Manchester United. Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard will have to play an important role if England are to go all the way and claim the World Cup for the first time since 1966.

United States on the other hand will be relying on Landon Donovan and Clint Dempsey to provide the goals up front while in Tim Howard they have one of the best keepers in the world.
