Greek Squad Move Out

The Greek Euro 2008 squad left Athens for the last time this Friday. The Greek coach, Otto Rehhagel was reluctant to answer how long he thought they would stay in the competition.

Four years ago of course, Greece weren't even acknowledged as having a chance - they were expected to be back on home soil after the Group Stages. But they stayed another 2 weeks - and then beat Portugal in the finals - returning as European Champions.

But their manager Rehhagel was unwilling to put any pressure on the players, and didn't want to answer how long he thought they would be away from home.

"Our only concern right now is to get in form and be ready on time for the opening encounter against Sweden," said Rehhagel. "We are European champions and every team wants to beat us."

Konstantinos Katsouranis, a midfielder for Greece, said that they had no specific targets now that they had qualified for the finals.

But interestingly, forward Angelos Charisteas wasn't so reluctant.

"Europe is still doubting whether we can repeat our level of performance from 2004. We will provide the answers on the pitch and hopefully prove wrong all those who say our success was a fluke."

Only time will tell - but it will be very interesting to watch that opening encounter.
