Greece stunned the world when they won Euro 2004 and since then, they have done enough to be considered one of the continent’s better football teams. Otto Rehhagel has often been criticised for his “boring” tactics, but supporters back home won’t be complaining so long as he continues to produce results.

Greece had to come through the playoffs. They beat Ukraine 1-0 to seal their first appearance at the World Cup since 1994. The draw for the World Cup left many Greek fans with a sense of déjà vu- two of their group opponents at the 2010 World Cup, Argentina and Nigeria, were also in the same group as the Greeks at USA’ 94.

There are several names in the Greek squad that many a football fan would recognise- midfielders Kostas Katsouranis and Giorgios Karagounis, defenders Sotirios Kyrgiakos and Vasilis Torosidis and forwards Angelos Charisteas, Theofanis Gekas and Giorgios Samaras.
