Ghana qualified to their first ever World Cup in 2006 and had a very good debut tournament, The Black Stars bounced back from a defeat to Italy in their first group game to beat Czech Republic and United States.

However they were picked to play against Brazil in the next round and were unable to prevent a heavy 3-0 defeat in the knockout stage.

Road to 2010 World Cup

Ghana were made to work hard for their qualification to the World Cup and came very close to missing out on an automatic spot to the tournament after managing to collect just one point from their final two games.

Ghana’s preparations for the World Cup could not have been better with Milovan Rajevac’s side making it to the final of the African Nations Cup in January. 

Michael Essien’s availability will be key for Ghana’s progress out of a group that includes Germany, Serbia and Australia. The Chelsea midfielder has spent most of the last season on the injury table but is confident that he will recover in time for the tournament this summer.
