Ghana Complaints About Angola PoliceThere were more accusations of Angolan attempts to disrupt opponents’ preparations prior to an African Nations Cup match against the Palancas Negras. Ghana’s FA allege maltreatment of journalists and constant surveillance by the Angolan police. The Black Stars beat Angola 1-0 in the quarter-finals this afternoon. The complaints follow Malawian allegations that their training was severely disrupted before their Group match against the hosts, which the Flames lost 2-0. Team spokesman Randy Abbey furiously complained: “Angolan police set-up a 24-hour surveillance outside our hotel. “When we protested, they accused us of assaulting their policemen,” he added, incredulously. There were further allegations that a Ghanaian journalist was beaten up after being refused access to a press conference. Angolan police spokesman, Jorge Bengue, has furiously denied all claims. He said: “There is no question of intimidatory tactics. The Ghanaian team, like all the other teams, are welcome in Angola.” Bengue added: “A Ghana journalist tried to get into a press conference at the team hotel without accreditation. After around ten minutes, he was allowed in. There was no major incident.” Abbey said an official complaint had been made to CAF.
Zambian coach Herve Renard revealed his managerial ambitions ahead of the Chipolopolos’ quarter-final against Nigeria tomorrow. The 41-year-old Frenchman, whose Zambia contract expires in July, declared: “I’m very ambitious. “I said even before the tournament that I wish to be coach of a very top team one day.” Tags: African Nations Cup, Ghana, Angola, CAF Posted: 25th January 2010 |
