Germany look favorites to qualify from Group D following a resounding 6-0 thrashing of San Marino on Saturday. However it was an improved performance from San Marino, who had lost 13-0 in the first leg of the tie last year.

Germany is sitting pretty at the top with 16 points from 6 matches, 2 points more than second-placed Czech Republic who have played 7 matches. However an area of concern for German coach Joachim Loew will have to be the form of Bremen striker Miroslav Klose.

Klose, who was the top scorer at the World Cup, has had a patchy run of form in the final stages of the league with Werder Bremen. Loew had hoped the match against San Marino to be the perfect chance for the striker to come back into form.

However Klose missed some easy chances while substitute Mario Gomez came on to score twice for the Germans. While there have been calls for the dropping of the 28-year old striker, Loew revealed that he has faith in Klose and will pick him in the starting line up against Slovakia.

"He's obviously not in the same form as last year but all strikers go through phases like this. His quality is beyond question and he has our absolute confidence. It's only a matter of time before he scores again and I hope it's on Wednesday", Loew said.

Meanwhile Slovakia's hopes of qualifying for the Euro 2008 finals received a huge setback when it was revealed that the team will be missing the services of Marek Mintál, Martin Jakubko and Szilárd Németh for the match against Germany.

Coach Ján Kocian has called up Tomáš Oravec and Stanislav Šesták, both of whom have had a fine season with their respective clubs, chalking up 15 goals each. Slovakia is currently in fourth position in the group with 9 points from 6 matches.
