Fulham 1-0 Liverpool

Clint Dempsey scored his first goal for Fulham to remove their relegation worries and defeat Liverpool who sit third in the English Premier League. Liverpool failed to carry on their form which saw their progression to the UEFA Champions League Final midweek over Chelsea. The only goal of the match came in the 68th minute from substitute Dempsey who sidefooted the ball past Liverpool keeper Jose Reina.

The match was decided in Fulham’s favour despite a number of attacks from Liverpool. Fulham keeper Antti Niemi denied Bellamy 3 times for a team who dropped to 10 men after Papa Bouba Diop received a red card for a second booking. This was the first victory for the London side in 11 league games under caretaker manager Lawrie Sanchez and gave the side 3 desperately needed points.

The end result was not too surprising. The midweek team that saw off Chelsea had 9 changes and was unrecognizable from the Champions League side. The only 2 players not to be rested were Jermaine Pennant and keeper Reina. This was Liverpool's ninth league loss away from home this season and similar to Arsenal is the key to not being able to challenge the top 2 teams.
