Mark Schwarer has had an amazing first season at Craven Cottage and the club know it. And the opening of talks on a new contract is no surprise to those who have seen the impact the former Middlesbrough keeper’s form has had on Roy Hodgson’s men.

 

The Aussie shot-stopper still has another year on his contract but Fulham are looking to ensure that he will remain in the capital for even longer. The match against Everton on Sunday could possibly see the side bring European football to Craven Cottage and this is a somewhat different end to the season than last year when Fulham only secured their Premier League lives in the final minutes of the season. A draw against the Toffees could be enough.

The sounds coming from the Australian international are positive. "There's been a few discussions," said Schwarzer "And I feel as good, if not better, than when I first signed for Fulham. At this stage in my career, if the manager backs you and you continue to play week in, week out, then why not continue to play for as long as possible?"
