FifPro World XI

 

FC Barcelona dominated this years FifPro World XI team, with 3 of the Spanish clubs players being included in the team. Spanish and English clubs made up the majority of the list as expected, with 10 of the players being based in England or Spain and just 1 coming from Italy.

 

The World XI Team was revealed as follows:

Iker Casillas (Real Madrid CF and Spain)

Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid CF and Spain)

John Terry (Chelsea FC and England)

Carles Puyol (FC Barcelona and Spain)

Rio Ferdinand (Manchester United FC and England)

Steven Gerrard (Liverpool FC and England)

Xavi Hernández (FC Barcelona and Spain)

Kaká (AC Milan and Brazil)

Lionel Messi (FC Barcelona and Argentina)

Fernando Torres (Liverpool FC and Spain)

Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United FC and Portugal)

 

John Terry made the list for the fourth year running, whilst Carles Puyol, Fernando Torres, Steven Gerrard, Kaka and Lionel Messi were included in last year’s team. Despite the team being voted for by footballers all over the world, the World XI team or World Footballer of the Year award is yet to include any players based outside of England, Spain or France.

Meanwhile, Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo has been named FifPro World Footballer of the Year, topping a list of around 54 players from around the world to succeed Kaka as the World’s Players’ Player of the Year.

 

Ronaldo received his award after significantly contributing to United’s Premier League and Champions League cup double, including 31 goals in 34 Premier League games.

 

The Manchester United star told press: "To be recognised by my fellow professional players worldwide, coming from over 50,000 players, is amazing.

 

I would like to thank my team-mates and coaches and everyone involved at Man United and the national team, as well as my family and friends for their support. Thank you also to FIFPro for this award and for your work in protecting the interests and welfare of players around the world."

 

Both results were announced after a poll of around 57,000 Fédération Internationale des Footballeurs Professionels members, which include footballers from around the world.
