Cesc Fabregas has suffered medial knee ligament damage and is expected to be out for around four months. The Arsenal captain sustained the damage at the end of the first half of the recent draw against Premier League leaders Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium.

 

The news is a massive blow for under pressure manager Arsene Wenger. The North London club have already suffered five league defeats this season, something that has led many commentators to write Arsenal’s chances of success off even at this stage of the campaign. Fabregas is the club’s most consistent performer and his absence is sure to be sorely felt.

Speaking to the media recently, Wenger said “The news is not good because it is a partial rupture of the medial knee ligament that is taking us three to four months…We will miss him of course but we have to find a way to compensate for the fact that he will not be on the pitch”.

The one positive note is that it is now understood that Fabregas will not need surgery to correct the problem.
