Everton’s Off-Field Woes Overshadow On-Field Revival![]() Everton’s thrilling 5-3 win over Blackpool last Saturday was the highlight of a difficult week for the club. French striker Louis Saha’s four-goal haul helped the Toffees come from behind twice to beat the Tangerines. But manager David Moyes fought an unseemly war of words with Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger and midfielder Cesc Fabregas after Everton’s 2-1 defeat at the Emirates four days earlier. ![]() And this week, the club announced £3.1m losses for 2009/2010, despite the tight spending policy which has drawn criticism from fans. The Blackpool win left Everton in 13th-place in the EPL, with Moyes calling Saha “unstoppable…everything you would want from a centre-forward.” Moyes had different words for Fabregas earlier in the week. The Toffees boss acknowledged that Saha’s first-half goal against Arsenal was offside. But he claimed he heard Fabregas make comments to match officials at half-time which “warranted a sending-off.” And he stood by his words after Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger accused him of “pretending to have heard” the comments. The FA will not take action over the alleged incident, which was not in referee Lee Mason’s match report. Chief Executive Robert Elstone defended Everton’s “good financial management” despite the club’s losses. He said: “It’s a healthy set of accounts but (although) money is tight, it will not stop us being ambitious.” Moyes said recently that key players might leave if they thought the club lacked ambition, joking that even non-league Crawley had outspent Everton in January. Everton visit Bolton in the EPL this coming Sunday.
