Espanyol 1-3 Deportivo La Coruna

One of the few non-consequent matches to be played on the final round of the season, Deportivo La Coruna defeated Espanyol 3-1, with all the four goals coming in the second half.

Both the teams made changes, with Espanyol playing Jonatas in place of Kameni while Deportivo welcomed back Bodipo in place of Capdevila. With both Espanyol and Deportivo assured of a mid table finish, the main focus of the match was a trophy presentation to Espanyol's Raul Tamudo as the club's all-time leading scorer.

The first half was a drab affair and the only point of excitement came at quarter of an hour when Andrade was sent off for insulting the referee. The match suddenly sprang to life immediately after the restart when Espanyol were awarded a penalty in the 47th minute which was coolly converted by Tamudo.

However two goals in two minutes from the visitors at the stroke of the hour mark saw the advantage pass over to Deportivo. First Iago saw his shot deflect off Cristian and fly into the net in the 60th minute. Two minutes later Sergio latched on to a Felipe pass and drove the ball into the far corner.

Deportivo added a third in the 83rd minute when Juan Rodríguez played in a delightful ball for Riki, who made no mistake in lobbing the ball over the advancing keeper. Deportivo finished the season at 13th position, two points behind Espanyol who were placed in the 12th position.
