Former England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson could be named as new manager for Manchester City within the next 24 hours. The club is in the midst of a takeover bid from a consortium led by controversial former Thai prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra. Shinawatra is said to be a fan of Eriksson and plans to hand the new manager a £50 million transfer kitty.

Eriksson stood down as England coach a year ago and has since been absent from the game despite rumours linking him to a number of clubs. With the administration at City likely to change rapidly the club look forward to a bright future with an experienced manager at the helm.
