Eredivisie November 2010 Update

Dutch Eredivisie>

PSV Eindhoven moved to the head of the Dutch league as former leaders and reigning champions FC Twente along with giants Ajax slipped up on the road.

Eindhoven continued their recent run which has included that famous 10-0 win and only one defeat at home to Twente. This time it was SC Excelsior on the wrong end of a 4-2 despite taking an early lead through Daan Bovenberg. Goals from Lens, Bouma, Toivonen and Marcelo saw PSV home with the visitors managing just a late Fernandez strike in further response.

Twente took the lead at NAC courtesy of Ruiz and held it until the last ten minutes. Boussaboun’s equaliser was then bettered by Amoah in the final minute to grab all three points for the home team. Ajax missed the chance to close on Twente as they followed up a home defeat with a loss at AZ Alkmaar, a result that brought the home team within two points of Ajax. FC Gronigen suffered a 3-0 reverse at the hands of Heracles who gave themselves more breathing space near the bottom.

Willem 11 did not play but remain stranded at the bottom of the Dutch Eredivisie with a mere two points. VVV Venlo could not repeat their heroics of the previous week and were soundly beaten 5-1 at home by Vitesse who themselves are too close to the bottom for comfort. Feyenoord’s draw with Heerenveen leaves them in 14th, unfamiliar territory for a team with such a rich history.
