England’s goal hero Jermain Defoe says the whole squad is ready for their Sunday clash with the old enemy Germany. Defoe also refuted comments from German legend Franz Beckenbauer that England will be ‘burnt out’. At the start of what will probably be three days of mind games, the World Cup winning player and manager was critical of the English but Defoe said “I don’t feel tired. I understand the Premier League is the hardest to play in but if you look after your body you’re fine.”

 

Defoe did confirm that the squad had practised penalties and with a history of exits in major competitions to the Germans on penalty kicks, he added ‘I hope that we can win it in 90 minutes.’

Coach Fabio Capello revealed his delight at the newly discovered spirit and determination in the camp following their vital win against Slovenia. With the disappointment of the USA match and the dismal display against Algeria forgiven but not forgotten, the Italian expressed his confidence that the England side that will play Germany is a different package to that which walked off to boos against Algeria. “Now we are into a play-off- and I think we are ready” he said.
