Elano will miss Brazil’s World Cup quarter-final with Holland due to an ankle injury.

 

The 29-year-old sustained the problem, which could rule him out of a potential semi-final and final, in the group stages when Ivory Coast’s Cheik Tiote made a reckless attempt to win the ball.

Former Manchester City player Elano has scored twice in the tournament in South Africa, although the Brazilians managed without his contribution for their comfortable 3-0 win over Chile in the last 16.

Team doctor Jose Luiz Runco said: “The bone is swollen inside. He has been undergoing treatment which can take a few days, weeks or a month, there is no timetable. Each day we will make an evaluation.”
