Donovan Secures Galaxy Final BerthLandon Donovan’s converted penalty was enough to send LA Galaxy into their first MLS Western Conference final in four years. The victory over Chivas USA means that they will face Houston Dynamo whom overcame Seattle for a shot at the MLS Cup which they last won in 2005.
"It's huge for our franchise," said the US record scorer, "You could see it in Bruce's (Arena) face. Myself, Gordo, Cobi, we understand what this all means. But that's not good enough for us. We're not satisfied. Now, we have a big opportunity to do something special."
David Beckham had a hand in the move that led to the penalty award but departed shortly afterwards, limping from the pitch. His mid-drift bandaged up, the England international said "I got a knee in my back that went into spasm, and I thought that I twisted my ankle. I'm sure it'll be fine. We'll see how it is tomorrow."
Another former English Premier League star in the wars is ex-Fulham and current Revolution striker Brian McBride. A collision with New England goal keeper Matt Reis left the US international with a stiffening leg and he was taken off. However, Fire are confident that he will be fit to face Real Salt Lake in the Eastern Conference Final. Tags: Landon Donovan, LA Galaxy, MLS Cup, David Beckham Posted: |
