Didier Drogba – Ivory CoastFor the second World Cup running, Ivory Coast have been unlucky enough to be drawn in the group of death. However, if the Ivorians get things right, they could be a force to be reckoned with. Central to their plans is talisman Didier Drogba, an uncompromising powerhouse of a forward who, on his day, is virtually unplayable. The Chelsea striker’s strength and pace can be a nightmare for defenders to deal with, while his ability in the air and on the deck is quite sublime – when he’s in the right frame of mind. Unfortunately if he’s not banging goals in for fun, Drogba shows an unsavoury side to his game. He has built up a reputation for being a diver and someone who feigns injury far too easily – and it’s all the more galling considering the size of the man. Drogba also tends to lose his patience with officials when things go against him - but he’ll have to curb his discipline if his side are to emerge from a group containing Brazil and Portugal. It’s a shame about his unpredictable attitude, because when he’s good, he’s phenomenal. The 32-year-old’s first touch didn’t always convince in his early days at Stamford Bridge following a move from Marseille, but lose your concentration against him for a second and you’ll be punished.
