Denmark go into their latest World Cup campaign as one of the favorites to qualify and make it to at least the quarter finals when the football extravaganza kicks off in South Africa on June 11. This is Denmark’s fourth World Cup tournament and the Danish Dynamites have qualified out of the group stage in each of their previous three appearances in the competition. Denmark made it as far as the quarter finals in 1998 before narrowly losing out to Brazil.

Road to 2010 World Cup

Having failed to qualify to the World Cup last time around, Denmark started their qualifying campaign on a strong note, beating Portugal before securing comfortable victories against Malta.

Morten Olsen’s side won just one of their final four qualifying games but still managed to finish at the top of their group table. Soren Larsen top scored for Denmark with five goals while Nicklas Bendtner managed to hit the back of the next three times.

Captain Jon Dahl Tomasson remains a key player for Denmark in spite of a fairly poor domestic form with Feyenoord. Thomas Sorensen has been included in the squad in spite of a broken leg with the Stoke City keeper confident of recovering before the tournament.
