USA striker Clint Dempsey is at a loss as to how to explain some of the decision being made by referees during the South African World Cup. He remains convinced that his side were denied a perfectly legitimate winner against Slovenia after the official somehow saw something amiss in the build up to Maurice Edu’s late strike.

 

Dempsey said “If you freeze frame that play, three of our guys are in a headlock. Before the tournament they told us any kind of holding or grabbing is a penalty. And then you get to the game and that is not what’s going on.”

Putting the controversial Slovenia match aside, USA coach Bob Bradley insisted that his side will not underestimate the threat posed by Algeria. Following their goalless draw with initial Group C favourites England on Friday, the Desert Foxes are showing themselves to be no pushovers.
