An own goal and an enforced appearance by a half-fit player both did nothing to aid Denmark during their opening match defeat by the Netherlands.

 

Nicklas Bendtner was still suffering from a recurrent groin problem when he was thrown into the fray due to injuries to Jon Dahl Tomasson and Daniel Jensen. Having not played since April, he coped with the injury but the altitude proved too much for the Arsenal striker. 

Meanwhile, defender Simon Poulsen held his hands up in respect of the own goal that ultimately went in off Daniel Agger. “It was my mistake but I need to go forward.”
