D-day for Heinze

The transfer saga surrounding Argentine and Manchester United defender Gabriel Heinze is continuing. Heinze has made the unprecedented step of seeking legal advice over United’s refusal to sell him to Liverpool.

Such action is extreme and is likely to be the nail in the coffin for the player’s career at United. D-day is fast approaching as Heinze is expected to resume training following the Copa America tournament with United on August 6th. From the United camp Sir Alex Ferguson expects Heinze to honour his contract and claims the Premiership club are in the right. Such a deadline now gives the lawyers of the player a week to find sufficient evidence to lodge a complaint against the club. They are arguing that a letter from David Gill confirming the required transfer fee for the player should override the pull of the players contract. However, the Reds claim that Gill verbally informed Heinze’s agent during a recorded session that United would not sell the defender to any of their 3 main Premiership rivals.

In addition to Liverpool Gabriel Heinze has also been targeted by a number of top clubs from the continent. These include both Real Madrid and Inter Milan who are keen to launch a bid for the player. While Heinze is proving a headache to Sir Alex Ferguson the United gaffer and squad have now returned from a highly successful and lucrative trip to the Far East. The summer signings excelled in the humid conditions and the spectacular chip by Nani over Shangzhou was one of the highlights of the entire tour.
