Coyle Upbeat On Debut

Bolton boss Owen Coyle saw his new charges beaten by Arsenal but took pride in the performance despite a 2-0 reverse.

The former Burnley boss enjoyed a defeat as much as a defeat can be enjoyed. He said "I thought the level of performance was terrific. What we offered for the duration of the match would, on another day, have resulted in points – whether it be one or three.”

Coyle has said that forward Johan Elmander will have his chance at the Reebok despite failing to shine since joining from Toulouse two years ago. Coyle commented that Elmander’s attitude was ‘brilliant’ and that his effort in training and ability make him more than capable of taking the chance that he will be given.

Winger Matt Taylor is aware that he needs to improve his own performance in front of goal after failing with a string of good chances against the Gunners. Having found the net only four times this season, the player admitted that his form last season set the standard. “I think if I had scored a few more goals, people would be saying I was playing really well,” he said. “But I probably made a rod for my own back last season."
