Cottages Chase Ferdinand

Sunderland defender Anton Ferdinand could be the subject of a bid to bring him back to London if Fulham are forced to seek a replace for Brede Hangeland.

The Norwegian has had a fine season at Craven Cottage and is the subject of speculation linking him with a move to pastures new. Arsenal and Aston Villa are just two of the clubs reportedly tracking the central defender’s availability with Villa particularly keen following the announcement of forthcoming retirement by Martin Laursen.

If the 27-year old does move on, Cottagers boss Roy Hodgson could look to former Hammer Ferdinand to fill the gap. The 24-year old joined the Black Cats at the beginning of the current campaign in what was a surprise move following the unrest at West Ham United. With Fulham pressing for a place in next seasons Europa Cup, a move back to the capital could be given additional attraction with European football on offer.

Fulham’s push for Europe was given a massive boost by the weekends victory over Villa with goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer in fine form. Two goals from Diomansy Kamara and a Danny Murphy penalty sealed an impressive victory over a Villa side that has been on tip form away from home this season.
