Cottagers Wait On Zamora

Fulham remain confident that striker Bobby Zamora will sign a new contract at Craven Cottage despite reported interest from a number of clubs including Liverpool now managed by former Fulham boss Roy Hodgson.

Mark Hughes and assistant Mark Bowen are hopeful that the ongoing discussions with the England man will ultimately prove fruitful. “He is currently in discussions with the club over a possible new deal. We are hopeful Bobby will agree a long-term contract with the club” said Bowen.

Meanwhile, former Fulham star Lucas Neill has commented on the deal-that-never-was involving Mark Schwarzer’s blocked move to Arsenal. “He deserved to go to a club like Arsenal” said the Galatasaray player, “But equally he will thrive under Mark Hughes at Fulham.”

Schwarzer himself has refused to comment following his recent trip with the Australian national team fearing that he “may say something wrong.” The deadline day saga which saw Arsenal make two offers for the Aussie former Middlesbrough stopper only to have them both rejected has clearly left a bitter taste in Schwarzers mouth. “At the end of the day, you have to get on with your work and coming away with the national team was a great relief for me really,” he said.
