Cottagers Chance To Banish Relegation Woes
Fulham will take a considerable step away from the EPL relegation zone maelstrom if they overcome struggling Blackpool at the Cottage this coming Sunday lunchtime.
The Cottagers lie 12th in the current EPL table, two points above Sunday’s opponents who themselves are just a point above Wolves in the drop zone.
And Fulham face a daunting trip to Manchester United the following Saturday before a vital match at Wolves on April 23rd.
Midfielder Steve Sidwell is hopeful that this week’s return to training will leave him fit to face the Tangerines on Sunday. The 28-year-old utility player picked up the injury when he “twisted in a funny way” during a recent training camp in Portugal.
Sidwell added: “The medical team here have been brilliant and they got me back fit as soon as they could.” He also highlighted the importance of victory on Sunday, saying:
“You look at the table and we’re lying in a comfortable position but when you look at the points, it’s unreal. If you can string two wins together it really shoots you up the table.”
Centre-back Aaron Hughes injured his shoulder on international duty with Northern Ireland last week and is extremely doubtful for Sunday’s clash.
Fulham may be forced into a defensive reshuffle, including a recall for out-of-favour right-back John Pantsil, one of a number of players expected to leave the club in the summer.
Also expected to depart is Hungarian striker Zoltan Gera who this week reportedly turned down the club’s contract offer.
