City Embarrassed In FriendliesManchester City suffered 1-3 defeats in both their post season tour friendlies- results which would certainly not have pleased club owner Thaksin Sinawatra.
Even without many first team regulars, City were expected to win both their games. Their tour started off with a loss to the Thailand Premier All Stars team. Felipe Caicedo opened the scoring for City, but the Thai team hit back through their Brazilian striker Oliviera. Tawan Sripan and Tana Chanabut added their names to the scoresheet for the Asians as Sinawatra watched from the stands.
Their second game, against the Hong Kong Invitational XI, saw Sun Jihai captain the team in what could be his last appearance for the club. German Dietmar Hamann gave City the lead in the 15th minute, only to see it cancelled out by Giovane Da Silva's 27th minute strike. Second half goals from Festus Baise and Liang Zicheng compounded City's woes, as the home side ran out 3-1 winners.
Fans of City, who qualified for the UEFA Cup via the fairplay rule, are still waiting for news on the future of their manager Sven Goran Eriksson. Sources say that Eriksson could be on his way out, with Sinawatra reportedly unhappy with the club's recent performances. Tags: Manchester City, Sun Jihai, UEFA Cup, Sven Goran Eriksson Posted: |
