If Chile can replicate the first 25 minutes they showed against Spain for the entirety of their last16 clash with Brazil, they will give the five-time World Cup winners a huge test.

In that opening period, the Chileans outplayed the Spanish and made them look ordinary. But then their goalkeeper inexplicably gifted them a goal out of nothing and the Chilean players lost their discipline.

It was comfortable for Spain in the end, but Chile were the architects of their own downfall. Which side turns up against Brazil is down to them, but if it’s the fearless team we know exists then a classic is in the making.
