Chile will be hoping for a better performance on the world stage when they start their World Cup campaign against Honduras on June 16. Watch Chile Live at 2010 World Cup by signing up with us here at Live Sport Network this summer.

Chile was one of the 13 teams to take part in the inaugural World Cup where they failed to progress past the group stage. La Roja withdrew from the next two editions before making their second appearance in 1950.

Chile’s best performance in the competition was in 1962 when they finished third but have since then have managed to qualify out of the group stage just once in four attempts.

Road to 2010 World Cup

Chile had an excellent qualifying campaign this time around, finishing second in the league table just one point behind leaders Brazil. Humberto Suazo was the top scorer for both Chile and in the qualification campaign with 10 goals while Matías Fernandez also chipped in with four goals.

Suazo’s form will be key for Chile’s hopes of making it at least to the knockout stage while coach Marcelo Bielsa will be relying heavily on Fernandez’s creativity from the midfield.
