Tottenham Hotspur’s plans to strengthen their squad during the transfer window have taken a blow with news that another club has entered the race to sign Wigan’s Honduran international Wilson Palacios.

 

The 24 year-old looked set to complete a move to White Hart Lane a little over a year after signing from Deportivo Olimpai for what now looks a miserly £1M given his current circa £14M price tag. However, Wigan boss Steve Bruce revealed that they had received interest from a third party. "Another club has joined the chase and we will see what develops," said Bruce. "I don't know if an offer has gone in officially as I'm not sure where we're up to until I see the powers that be."

Meanwhile, Redknapp confirmed that Spurs had received an offer for their 27 year-old Brazilian goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes although it appears unlikely that it will be accepted. Despite embarrassing early form following his £7M transfer from PSV Eindhoven, recent displays have improved dramatically. "He's shown unbelievable character," said Redknapp.
