Spain’s World Cup semi-final with Germany is the most important game in their history, according to captain Iker Casillas.

It is Spain’s first ever appearance in the last four of the competition and the tie sees them face the Germans for the first time competitively since the Euro 2008 final, which the Spanish won 1-0.

 

And skipper Casillas believes the upcoming encounter is even more significant than the game they played in Vienna two years ago.

The Real Madrid goalkeeper said: “We know the Germany match is the most important in our history - more than the Euro 2008 final.”

Spain have flattered to deceive in World Cup tournaments, while Germany have a stellar record, reaching seven finals and winning three of them.
