Campbell Out For England

32 year old Sol Campbell will miss out on England’s international friendly with Germany on Wednesday. The Portsmouth centre back will sit out the game set to be played at the new Wembley stadium as he recovers from a groin injury. Campbell was named along with teammate David James in the initial squad list but has now been withdrawn. It was the first time both players had featured in Steve McClaren’s since his appointment after the 2006 World Cup.

Now that Campbell has been ruled out of the squad this has made way for Newcastle United player Steven Taylor who features in the senior squad for the first time. 21 year old Taylor has now been named in the 28 man squad after impressing in the summer Under 21 tournament. Also named in the squad are John Terry, Michael Owen, David Beckham and Owen Hargreaves despite questions over each of their fitness levels.

For the midweek fixture Germany will also be missing key players. Captain Michael Ballack is out with an ankle injury and joins a worrying list of players sidelines including Mario Gomez, Frings, Borowsku and Podolski. Despite the mix and match teams England v Germany always promises to be an exciting tie. You can catch the action with live international friendly football online through our network.
