Australia star Tim Cahill is waiting to hear whether FIFA will increase his one match ban to two following his sending off against the Germans.

A single game ban is automatic but the governing body can increase that. However, after Bastian Schweinsteiger’s post match comments, the Aussies are hoping that missing the up-and-coming match against Ghana will be his only punishment.

 

The decision to give the Everton man a straight red card was widely criticised and Schweinsteiger said that he considered a sending off as harsh. CEO of the Australian Football Federation Ben Buckley said “Quite rightly Tim’s disappointed but our submission to FIFA has gone in this morning.” Coach Pim Verbeek added “One game is more than enough because the foul is not that bad. A yellow card have been more than enough”.

Australia now need results against Serbia and Ghana to have a chance of progression.
