CAF Honour Team Of Tournament But Dishonour Referee

Africa’s Football Confederation (CAF) has named its team of the 2010 African Nations Cup tournament, which is as follows:

Essam El Hadary (Egypt), Madjid Bougherra (Algeria), Wael Gomaa (Egypt), Mabina (Angola), Alexandre Song (Camerroon), Ahmed Fathi, Ahmed Hassan (both Egypt), Peter Odemwingie (Nigeria), Asamoah Gyan (Ghana), Flavio (Angola), Mohamed Zidan (Egypt).

The substitutes are: Richard Kingson (Ghana), Emmanuel Mbola (Zambia), Achille Emana (Cameroon), Kwadwo Asamoah (Ghana), Seydou Keita (Mali), Karim Ziani (Algeria), Mohamed Gedo (Egypt), Andre Ayew (Ghana), Eric Mouloungui (Gabon), Ogbuke Obasi (Nigeria), Jacob Mulenga (Zambia), Salomon Kalou (Cote D’Ivoire).

The fall-out from ACN champions’ Egypt’s fraught semi-final win over bitter North African rivals Algeria last Thursday looks set to last until this June’s World Cup in South Africa.

The Beninois match referee Koffi Codjia, who is on the shortlist of officials for this June’s World Cup in South Africa, has been suspended indefinitely by CAF.

Despite appearing to receive a head-butt from irate Algerian keeper Faoud Chaouchi, Codjia neglected to mention the high-profile incident in his official match report. He cautioned Chaouchi for dissent at the time and issued him with a second yellow card in stoppage time.

Both Chaouchi and defender Nadir Belhadj, who was also dismissed during the match, face disciplinary action during the next few weeks which could impact upon their participation in South Africa.

By contrast, Ghana’s Kwadwo Asamoah was voted the tournament’s Fair Play player.
