Dimitar Berbatov was the Bulgaria hero in their match against Belarus at Minsk as he netted in both goals that gave his team a 2-0 win over their rivals in a Group G Euro 2008 qualifying game on Saturday. In the second on these matches this time at home the Tottenham striker will look to replicate his fine form.

Berbatov had not scored for Bulgaria in 2006 and was desperate to redeem himself on national level.  However he has scored four goals in this year's Euro 2008 qualifier games and his brace on Saturday keeps Bulgaria alive in the competition. Berbatov has a chance to repeat his performance in the return leg at home when Bulgaria meets Belarus on June 6.

It was thought that Bulgaria would have a tough time against Belarus because of the abrupt departure of national coach Hristo Stoichkov, who has taken over as the RC Celta de Vigo coach in Spain. Stanimir Stoilov was appointed as the interim coach for the Belarus ties and the PFC Levski Sofia coach was proud of his team's display against Belarus in difficult conditions.

"Now we must approach the second game against Belarus in the same way with full motivation. We need that win and with a little more luck we may finish second," he said after the game. Stoilov took a bold approach by dropping names like Valeri Bozhinov, Blagoi Georgiev, Svetoslav Todorov, Dalian Shide and Zoran Janković from his squad and his move appears to have paid off.

Meanwhile Belarus coach Yuri Puntus has an injury crisis on his hand as he tries to rally his team for the return leg on June 6. Vitali Kutuzov and Aleksandr Hleb are in the squad, but might miss the game altogether, while the coach has elected to leave out experienced names like Aleksei Skverniuk, Dmitri Lentsevich, Sergei Gurenko and Maksim Romashchenko.

Bulgaria are third in Group G with 12 points from six games, while Belarus are fourth with seven points from six games. Bulgaria v Belarus will kickoff at 18:00 on Wednesday 6^th June. Watch the football live inside our member’s area.
