Brown Backs Fans On ProposalEnglish Prime Minister Gordon Brown has spoken out over the Premier Leagues plans to introduce overseas games. Brown has urged the administration to listen to the views of fans before moving ahead. The goal of overseas games is to increase the stature of the Premiership as a global brand. Brown also believes that any money earned from such matches should be used to the benefit of fans.
"Fans have to come first and you have to listen to their views on this. It's important to recognise that the money has to go back into the game."
The Premier League’s plans have caused heated debate with mixed reactions from all corners. Alex Ferguson was angry there was no consultation with clubs. Fellow managers Roy Keane and Kevin Keegan have voiced approval. In the short term all 20 clubs have agreed to look at the proposal to extend the season from 2011 to 39 games. The extra fixture will be played in 5 host cities. Whilst clubs back the plan to extend their worldwide profile many supporters have been left unhappy. Tags: Premiership, Alex Ferguson Posted: |
