History

Brazil are the only team ever to play in the competition every single time and have won five trophies so far, one more than Italy. Brazil had reached their first ever World Cup final on home soil in 1950 but lost to Uruguay.

The Samba Kings’ first every World Cup trophy came in 1958 and they went on to win the trophy two more times in the next three World Cups. After a long drought, Brazil finally reclaimed their trophy in 1990 and though they managed to reach the final in 1998, they lost out to France.

A Ronaldo inspired Brazilian side went on to lift the trophy in 2002 but poor form in 2006 meant that Brazil could only make it to the quarter finals.

Brazil were expected to finish at the top of the CONEMBOL qualification table but Dunga’s side were made to work hard during the campaign and needed a draw from their final group match to finish at the top of the table.

The qualification campaign also saw the decline of Ronaldinho with Dunga opting to play with two strikers up front.

Key Players

With no Ronaldinho in the squad, the spotlight will be on Kaka who has had an indifferent season with Real Madrid. The 28-year old has suffered a number of injuries this season but has expressed confidence that he will recover his full fitness before the start of the tournament.
