Brazil Stroll To Friendly Rout

Five-time World Cup winners Brazil continued their preparations for the 2010 tournament by thrashing Tanzania 5-1 in a friendly.

Robinho and substitute Ramires helped themselves to a brace apiece, while Kaka also got on the scoresheet in Dar Es Salaam.

But considering Brazil’s opponents are ranked 100 places below them, anything other than a convincing scoreline would have been seen as a disappointment.

Manager Dunga elected to go with arguably his strongest starting line-up, with the exception of Tottenham goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes replacing Julio Cesar. The Inter Milan stopper picked up a back problem in their previous friendly win over Zimbabwe.

But White Hart Lane star Gomes could not keep a clean sheet as Jabir Aziz was left unmarked to head home a consolation for the spirited but ultimately limited Tanzanians. It was the first goal Brazil conceded since Bolivia breached their defence last October.

It may have been fairly straightforward for the most part, but Brazil will be well aware they’ll face a step up in competition when the real business starts in South Africa as they bid to become the first team to win the World Cup on every continent.
