Wilfred Bouma could be staying at Aston Villa beyond this season according to manager Martin O’Neill, who is eager to keep the defender.

Bouma finds himself a free agent in the summer and Villa haven’t offered him a new contract yet.

Bouma’s contract allows Villa the option to extend his deal by 12 months, which is what O’Neill will no doubt do. The 29 year old defender has been an integral part of the Aston Villa side this season.

Martin O’ Neill has been impressed by Bouma this season and hopes to keep the defender for at least another season.

Martin O’ Neill hopes that Bouma and his agent will speak to the club about a new deal shortly.

Martin O’Neill never got to see Bouma in action when he first came to Villa Park as Bouma was injured but since he has got back to full fitness O’Neill has been extremely pleased with his performances.
