Bosnia-Herzegovina 3-2 TurkeyBosnia-Herzegovina stayed in the hunt for a Euro 2008 final spot with a surprising 3-2 win over Turkey on Saturday. Turkey were playing with an unbeaten record in the qualifying rounds so far, but their loss to Bosnia-Herzegovina puts them behind Greece on the leaderboard.
Veteran Hakan Sukur put Turkey ahead in the 13th minute with a fine header off Arda Turan's corner. Moments before Sukur had come close, but had shot over the bar. Bosnia-Herzegovina reacted positively launching penetrating attacks and were finally rewarded when Muslimović beat Turkey goalkeeper Rustu with a shot off Zvjezdan Misimović's pass.
But Turkey were back in the lead in the 39th minute when Sabrı Sarıoğlu unleashed a left-footed shot to leave Bosnia-Herzegovina keeper Adnan Guso stranded.
However even this goal did not dent the home team's confidence and they fought back with Edin Džeko collecting a long ball from Vedin Musić and firing a stunning shot from the edge of the penalty area. The second half was evenly balanced with both sides having an equal number of chances.
However Adnan Ćustović settled the game in Bosnia-Herzegovina's favor when he headed in Mirko Hrgović's right-wing cross in the dying minutes. The win was a much-needed one for Bosnia, who faced the prospect of elimination had they failed to register three points from the Turkey game.
Bosnia-Herzegovina coach Fuad Muzurović felt that his team had a chance, "They took the lead two times, but we managed to draw level twice and then win in the end. Now, we can say that we have a chance to fight for Euro 2008," he observed.
The win sees Bosnia-Herzegovina at the third spot in Group C with 10 points from six games, while Turkey are on the second spot with 13 points from six games. Bosnia-Herzegovina face Malta on June 6, while Turkey will only play next in September. Bosnia v Turkey finished 3-2 to the home team. Tags: Bosnia, Euro 2008, Turkey, Bosnia v Turkey Posted: |
