Bolton “Going Forward” With England Duo

Bolton striker Kevin Davies made his England debut, as a substitute against Montenegro at Wembley this week.

Davies’ clubmate Gary Cahill also included in the England squad, and Trotters manager Owen Coyle hailed their selection as proof that the club were “going forward.”

Also going forward under Coyle is striker Johan Elmander, who this week blasted former boss Gary Megson for his poor form during his first two years at Wanderers.

Bolton Wanderers are 12th in the EPL after a 1-1 draw at West Bromwich Albion just prior to the international break.

Johan Elmander fired Bolton ahead with his fourth goal of the season only for the Baggies to grab a point. And the Swedish international praised boss Coyle for his improved form.

He told Sky Sports: “Coyle is a great coach who I enjoy working with.” But he was bitter about predecessor Megson, claiming: “It didn’t help to stare and scream at me. I got tired the more of it I heard.”

Coyle has defended EPL managers criticised recently by Fulham midfielder Danny Murphy for “sending out teams so pumped up” that the sort of damaging tackling seen in recent EPL games was inevitable.

Coyle said: “No manager instructs his players to try to hurt opponents. As good a player as Danny is, he should leave managing to the managers.”

Meanwhile, 22-year-old South Korean international winger Chung-Yong Lee was named EPL player of the year at the 2010 Northwest Football Awards this week.
