Blues Head The Queue For Boyd

The Scottish Premier League’s new record striker could be on his way to the English Premier League before long although he wouldn’t necessarily feel too homesick if his ultimate destination is St Andrews.

 Krist Boyd

Having failed to land the Scottish international at the start of last year, Blues boss Alex McLeish looks set to launch a fresh bid to bring Kris Boyd south of the border. Birmingham City had a bid of just under £4M accepted in January 2009 by Rangers but the player failed to agree personal terms and the move broke down. With the striker out of contract in the summer and no new deal being muted, the time may have come for Boyd to try his luck in England.

He is free this month to discuss a summer move but Rangers would prefer to demand a fee for him although it will be somewhat lower than the previous fee given the short term left on his contract. He has also been watched by Championship clubs Ipswich Town and Middlesbrough.

McLeish will no doubt wish to seal a deal as soon as possible as his side continue to pressure the higher echelons of the Premier League and look to their FA Cup 3rd round replay against Nottingham Forest.
