Blues Comebacks But No comeback for Gold

Birmingham twice came back from two goals down in the past week but only have one EPL point to show for their powers of recovery.

But they refused to allow former co-owner David Gold to make a personal comeback to St. Andrews after another slinging match between Blues regimes old and new.

Blues went two-nil down against West Ham United at the weekend and at Stoke City two days later. But while they held on for a point against bottom club West Ham, they succumbed to a late winner at the Britannia Stadium.

Cameron Jerome and Nicola Ziti scored twice in eight minutes against the Hammers, while Jerome and Keith Fahey – with his first EPL goal for Blues – were the architects of the Britannia comeback before they conceded an 85th-minute winner.

Gold re-opened old boardroom wounds in a round of newspaper interviews just before West Ham’s visit, the club he now co-owns.

In a move perfectly-timed to cause maximum effect, Gold accused current Blues vice-chairman Peter Pane of reneging on promises to Gold, allegedly made during takeover talks thirteen months ago.

He described Pane’s behaviour as “disgusting,” while claiming he didn’t want “to distract from what is a vital game for West Ham United.”

Pane echoed responses he made when the issue reared its head earlier this year, saying Gold’s claims were both “false and untrue” and made “absolutely no sense.” Gold was unsurprisingly barred from St Andrews on matchday.

Blues visit big-spending Manchester City in the EPL on Saturday.
