Błaszczykowski Injury Scare

Polish right-wing man Jakub Blaszczykowski is likely to miss the last two of Poland’s pre-Euro 2008 friendly games against Albania and Denmark through injury. He already missed the first warm up game against F.Y.R. Macedonia but is confident of making it for his country’s first game of the finals on June 8th against Germany.

The 22-year-old, who plies his trade in Germany with Borussia Dortmund, suffered an injury to his thigh muscle in Poland friendly last Friday against Swiss minnows Schaffhausen. The Polish team doctor though, is confident that the player will be fit to play Germany in the opening game. He also pointed out that Błaszczykowski will train on his own as there would be no point in risking him in the two remaining friendlies against Albania and Denmark.

Polish manager Leo Beenhakker also added that he hopes to have the player for training with the rest of the team at some stage next week. The coach said that even if Błaszczykowski doesn’t recover in time for the German game, he will select him for his final squad as they would still have two games remaining against Croatia and Austria.
