Blackpool On The March – For Now![]() Despite some incredible comebacks in the latest round of Premier League fixtures, few results can match Blackpool’s victory at Newcastle. The Magpies finished 32 points above Ian Holloway’s side in the Championship last season but there was no gulf in class when they faced each other this time round. Of course the Tangerines needed enormous luck and had their goalkeeper to thank, but the way the side have responded since their 6-0 drubbing at Arsenal speaks volumes for the attitude of the players and their manager. Fairytale starts can often be ended with a dose of reality as Burnley and Hull have found out in recent seasons but seven points from four fixtures – with three of them away from home – is a glorious return and it gives them a chance – albeit still a small one – of staying up. But any notion that Blackpool were going to amass the lowest points total in the Premier League’s history have been emphatically thrown out the window. Blackpool need another five points from 34 games to beat that Derby’s pitiful 2008 total of eleven, but Holloway and their players are expressing a desire to be more than just gallant losers – they are serious about being a top flight team next year and will give most teams a game, especially at Bloomfield Road.
