Blackburn’s Indian Takeover StallsBlackburn Rovers’ long-awaited takeover will have to be awaited a while longer. Indian poultry giants Venkateshware Hatcheries Group (Venky’s) are edging towards a £46m deal to buy Rovers despite a possible legal challenge from a previous bidder. Meanwhile, Rovers’ recent displays garnered praise in defeat against Chelsea and points at Newcastle, current Rovers boss Sam Allardyce’s previous club. Venky’s takeover is, reportedly, “still on track.” But Indian businessman Saurin Shah has claimed that he introduced Venky’s to the club as part of his consortium, which entered takeover talks with Rovers in June. ![]() He told the Lancashire Telegraph newspaper he didn’t want to “break” the deal but simply be “part of any purchase, as originally promised.” Rovers recovered from defeat to a late Chelsea goal a fortnight ago with consecutive 2-1 victories. They overcame Wigan at home last Saturday with Morten Gamst Pedersen’s long-range free-kick and Jason Roberts’ close-range header. And the two scorers repeated the dose at Newcastle, fulfilling boss Allardyce’s pre-match promise to “show them what they are missing.” Allardyce also claimed he held no grudges against his old club, which seemed evident from his pre-match handshake with Newcastle owner Mike Ashley, which was caught by TV cameras. The funeral took place this week of much-loved club legend Ronnie Clayton, a Rovers star in the 50s and 60s, who died on 29th October. A thanksgiving service at Blackburn Cathedral was attended by Rovers luminaries, and Clayton’s England colleague Sir Bobby Charlton. Rovers visit Tottenham in the EPL this Saturday.
