After weeks of speculation on his future, Trinidad and Tobago striker Kenwyne Jones has committed to a further 4 years at the Stadium Of Light, saying "I think I was meant to be here."

The 24 year-old who has been linked with a move away from Sunderland most notably to Tottenham decided to quash all the stories and ensure that boss Rocky Sbragia does not have to do a bit of last minute shopping in the transfer window. Clearly, the work undertaken by Sbragi and chairman Niall Quinn to convince Jones that his future lay in the North East as opposed to North London.

Jones celebrated his extended contract by scoring the only goal in the Black Cats 1-0 victory over Fulham which granted them breathing room in the tightly packed relegation battle.
